Legend of St. George, the dragon and the princess

Every three years, in July, along with the medieval market, the arrival of Sant Jordi is represented in the park of Villa Rosario. This performance is a staging that leaves all the spectators speechless. The last performance took place on 13-14 July 2018.

Festivals of Santa Lucia

This festival is held on the weekend closest to 13 December (feast of Saint Lucia). It is a characteristic festivity in the municipality and has a great tradition as it is the patron saint of paper workers. Given the importance that this industrial guild has had in our town, it is to be expected that the devotion to this saint will gain importance in our town. This devotion is promoted as a festival, at the beginning of the century with the evolution of the paper industry.

The characteristic of this celebration is the clothing in which presided by a clavario and a clavariesa, the men go dressed in Spanish cape and black hat and suit and the women with tile and Spanish mantilla.

The festival consists of parades through the streets of the municipality, which can not miss the street of Santa Lucia, very present these days, reveille, lunch, solemn High Mass and in the afternoon the procession.

Every two years and together with this festival, the paper dress competition is held, in which the designers dress the models with their creations and parade before the expectant public. This competition is of great interest for the originality of their costumes.

Street Festivals

These festivities, which are still celebrated today in certain streets such as La Cope, Desamparados, Misericordia… have been of great importance in the municipality. Most of them are celebrated with meals of neighbours, games, dances, verbenas… that serve to reunite all the inhabitants of the zone and to enjoy these activities.

“La Cope”

From 13 to 16 August, the “La Cope” Neighbourhood Festival is held.

They started in 1975 in honour of the “Mare de DeuD’Agost”, and they have their origin in the meeting of several neighbours of the “La Cope” neighbourhood to celebrate the handing over of the keys of the houses promoted and built by means of a cooperative.

For several years, the main activity that characterized this celebration was the release of a heifer, which is why it is also known as the FESTIVAL OF “THE COW”.

Nowadays, other events are held, such as brotherhood dinners, popular festivals, animations and the mass in honour of the “MARE DE DÉU D’AGOST”.
